Gooseneck stacker trailers

A gooseneck puts the hitch over the truck's rear axle, which is why loaded goosenecks tow flatter, sway less and turn sharper than a bumper-pull of the same length. On a stacker, which carries its weight high when the upper deck is loaded, that stability matters. The neck also adds a storage loft or sleeping area that bumper-pull units do not have.

The trade-off is a truck with an open bed and a gooseneck ball, almost always a one-ton. If that is what you drive, these are the stackers to look at.

Questions buyers ask

Gooseneck or bumper pull for a stacker?

Gooseneck if your truck can take it and you tow long distances or into tight paddocks; it is more stable and turns tighter. Bumper pull if you need to tow with a wider range of trucks or want the full bed free for a toolbox or fuel cell.

How much weight is on the gooseneck hitch?

Typically 15 to 25 percent of the loaded trailer weight. On a 20,000-pound loaded stacker that is 3,000 to 5,000 pounds of pin weight, so check your truck's payload rating, not just its tow rating.
